Remembering Mom

by Julianne Lepp

The ache creeps in like a slow rain
slipping into every opening until I am drenched
in remembering

It isn't one singular image or sound, but metaphoric
collages of a strand in time
Where I see her back dropped in the familiar fabric of my childhood

Where I see her weeding errant intruders in our sidewalk garden and the tan of her back contrasts with
her silver wiry hair

When her body was strong and secure

While sunflowers showered seeds and towered over an Ant Queen's kingdom

and there was always a blue plastic pitcher of Mom's sweet tea in the fridge.
